Fast Access To
Network Properties
Instead of opening Control
Panel and clicking on the Network icon, just
right-click on Network Neighbourhood and choose
Properties. Another quick way is to double
click the Network Neighbourhood icon while
holding the ALT key.
What To Do
When Ctrl + Alt + Del Does Not Work
If you get hung up in Windows 95 and the
usual ctrl-alt-delete does not respond,
press ctrl-escape. This may bring up the
START menu from which you can shut down
the system.
Opening Files In Different Applications
You may want to open
a spreadsheet list in a Word document.
To do this double right click on the file
in Explorer. The Open With option can now
be selected and you can choose a different
application to open the file with.
How To Completely Delete A File Quickly
The recycle bin is handy
if you accidentally delete a file but sometimes
you want to delete a file completely. To
immediately delete a file rather than send
it to the Recycle Bin, hold down the Shift
key when you delete the file.
Features Of The Taskbar You May Not Know
About
To see a list of available options right
click on an empty part of the taskbar and
select the Properties option. This will
display a list of options including auto-hide,
always on top, and others.
To change the location of the taskbar
to the bottom, top, or either side of the
screen you can simply drag it to where
you want it.
To increase the size of the taskbar you
can simply drag the edge of the taskbar
with the mouse cursor and make the taskbar
a size that is convenient for you. This
is useful if you are running a large number
of programs, and want to have larger buttons
on the taskbar so that you can read the
title on that application's button.
How To Experiment Without Loosing Your
Work
Lets say that you have
just completed a major portion of your work
and you are satisfied with its progress.
You now want to try a new feature:
Save the file and try the feature
If it ruins your work, close with file
WITHOUT saving
Open the saved file and resume
This should avoid an embarrassing situation
where you are responsible for ruining your
own work.
