Keyboard Navigation for the Web


To move from the top of a web page to the bottom (or vice versa) quickly and easily simply, use your keyboard.

  • By pressing the “End” key you will be taken to the bottom of the page
  • By pressing the “Home” key you will be taken to the top of the page
  • To scroll up and down the page simply use the “Page Up” or “Page Down” keys

  • Go Directly To A Website

    Tired of waiting for your homepage to open when all you are going to do is type in a new address. Then try this quick trick:

  • Click the Start button in Windows 95/98/2000 and select Run
  • Type in the Internet address you want to visit (www.synaxis.co.nz)
  • Then click the OK button


  • Your browser will start and take you directly to the specified website.

    Open A New Link In A New Window

    Imagine you are browsing the web for information and a link catches your attention. You can keep your current page open while viewing the link in a new window. To do this simply:

  • Right mouse click on the link
  • Select from the menu, Open Link in New Window

  • Basic keystrokes for speeding up browsing

    ACTION - KEYSTROKE

  • Go to top of page - Home
  • Go to bottom of page - End
  • Go back - Alt + Left arrow or Backspace
  • Go forward - Alt + Right arrow or Shift + Backspace
  • Stop page loading - Esc
  • Refresh current page - Ctrl + R or F5
  • New browser window - Ctrl + N
  • Close current window - Ctrl + W
  • New message - Ctrl + M

  • Additional keystrokes for speed browsing

    ACTION - KEYSTROKE

  • Go to URL - Ctrl + O
  • Show history - Ctrl + H
  • Save current page - Alt + F then A
  • Print current page - Ctrl + P
  • Edit Favourites - Ctrl + B
  • Add Favourites - Ctrl + D
  • Find on current page - Ctrl + F
