where only one user requires remote
access to a particular computer.
Netmeeting from Microsoft also
allows a user to remotely access
another computer with the added
benefits of Video and Audio conferencing,
Program sharing, Text chat and
Whiteboard functions. In other
words, not only can you access
work programs and files, but you
can also hold meetings or conduct
interviews without leaving home.
Netmeeting provides access to
only one remote user at a time
and is therefore most useful for
small businesses. Netmeeting is
available free from Microsoft
or Synaxis IT.
For a Larger Office:
Most offices with more than 5
computers will have a designated
file server. With Windows 2000
Server there are some excellent
new features to assist you to
work away from the office. These
features are called Terminal Services
and provide similar functionality
to PC Anywhere and Netmeeting.
The benefits of Terminal Services
are increased speed and more than
one person connecting simultaneously.
The speed and flexibility of this
system can be further enhanced
by the use of Citrix Metaframe
software. The use of Virtual Private
Network (VPN) connections also
mean that you can connect to your
system from anywhere in the world
for the cost of a local call.

people connecting via dial-up
modem directly to the server,
as well as modem, cable, ISDN
