Save Your Chart As A Template

After spending countless hours perfecting a chart with your favourite colours and fonts, you may want to reuse it in the future. To save the chart as a template, follow these instructions:

  • Select Chart / Chart Type
  • Click the Custom Types tab
  • Click Set as Default Chart
  • In the dialog box that appears, give your custom chart a name and description
  • Click OK

  • Vertical Text

If you wish to display text in cells vertically you can easily rotate the contents of a cell. To do this:

  • Select the cell(s) you wish to rotate
  • Right-click on the selected cells
  • Click Format Cells from the Context menu
  • Click the Alignment tab
  • Under Text Orientation, click the box on the left that has "text" running vertically
  • Click OK

  • Fast Fractions

Have you ever tried to enter a fraction in a cell, like 3½, and found that Excel automatically formats the fraction as a date. There is a solution at hand. To enter a fraction or mixed number you need to:

  • Enter the first number (eg 3)
  • Press Spacebar
  • Then enter the fraction (eg ½)

  • To enter a simple fraction (like 2/3):
  • Enter the number 0 (without the 0, Excel will again think that you are entering a date)
  • Press Spacebar
  • Then enter the fraction into the cell (eg 2/3)
  • news
